Winter in the Zoo

2013. december 03. 14:16
Debrecen – Owing to financial reasons, some animals got new accomodation for the winter in the Culture Park. The tamarins and the meercats also moved.

Ares, the Siberian tiger doesn’t mind cold weather in December, but the giraffes are more sensitive than that, therefore they spend only a little time in the open air in winter. The gold-handed tamarins are trying to get used to their new temporary home since they have been moved to the palm house from the tropicarium.  They are going to spend winter here as well as the strange named rulrul birds.

The Zoo is in winter mode since the animals need more food until spring than they usually do.  The reconstruction of the building that was the bears’ home previously was finished some days ago. There are still works in the monkey house, though the old cages have disappeared yet. The construction started a month ago so this buildig will be totally new, too. Among others a new sluice system will be created, too.  The reconstruction costs more than 9 million HUFs  and hopefully will be finished in a couple of weeks. The runner will be ready for next year because of  the narrow financial circumstances.
