The Jewish district is under renovation in Debrecen
Debrecen – The biggest renovation ever has started in the 120-year-old synagog in the Pásti street. The Jewish district is under renovation sponsored by 520 million forints of financial source of the Government and the Union. The prayer room is going to be repaired and accomodation for the pilgrims is to be created in the Hall.
Poems and songs were heard on Sunday in the 120-year-old orthodox Synagog at the celebration of the Jewish Congregation. The jewish district is being renovated by the Israelite community using the Europen Union financial support.
- We are starting the project in October. The longest part of the project is the renovation of the old orthodox synagog. This building will be reconstructed in his old style – said Tamás Horovitz, chairman of Jewish Community.
Among others, as part of the 520 million forints investment, the chapel is to be renovated, the Hall at the Bajcsy-Zsilinszky street is to be cleared around, in the mansard of which 20 accomodation will be created for the pilgrims. Renovating the Jewish district may attract more tourists to Debrecen and give a fresh start to the developing religious tourism.
